Growing More Than a Garden: Community Plant Day at Bellwoods

“There’s nothing better than fresh organic vegetables.”

For Blair, a client at Bellwoods, that belief has grown into a cherished annual tradition.

Each year, Blair leads Community Garden Day, bringing together Bellwoods staff and community members to plant and care for the courtyard garden. What began as an idea rooted in a passion for gardening has become an opportunity to connect, collaborate, and watch something meaningful grow.

This year’s planting day saw participants roll up their sleeves and get to work preparing the garden beds for the season ahead. A variety of vegetables, including broccoli and corn, were planted in the courtyard garden, where they will continue to grow throughout the summer months.

Beyond the gardening itself, Community GardenDay is a reflection of what makes Bellwoods special. It demonstrates how client-led ideas can flourish when they are encouraged, supported, and shared with others. Blair’s leadership and enthusiasm continue to inspire those around him, creating opportunities for connection and community through a shared love of gardening.

The courtyard garden serves as more than just a place to grow vegetables. It is a space where people can gather, learn from one another, enjoy the outdoors, and take pride in contributing to a project that benefits the broader Bellwoods community.

We would like to thank Blair for his ongoing dedication to Community Plant Day and the many staff members who helped bring this year’s event to life. As the garden grows over the coming months, we look forward to enjoying the fruits and vegetables of everyone’s hard work.

We can’t wait to see what this year’s garden has in store!
