The Minister is looking for members to join Ontario accessibility advisory bodies

The Minister Responsible for Accessibility is seeking dedicated and knowledgeable individuals and organizations to sit on upcoming Standards Development Committees (SDC) to develop a new accessibility standard for Health Care, as well as to review the Information & Communications and Employment Standards.  All three Committees will launch in fall 2016.

The Minister is always looking for candidates to sit on her Accessibility Standards Advisory Council (ASAC) to provide advice on matters relating to accessibility and the implementation of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.

ASAC and SDCs typically meet for one to two days every six to eight weeks in Toronto. Additional time is required to review materials between meetings. Reviews are anticipated to begin in fall 2016 and run through summer 2017.

More information on ASAC and SDCs can be found on our website.

If you, or someone you know, may be interested in becoming a member of ASAC, please fill out an application on the Public Appointments Secretariat website.

If you, or someone you know, may be interested in becoming a member of an SDC, please send a resume to AODA.INPUT@ontario.ca and indicate which SDC you are interested in (Health Care, Information & Communications or Employment), as well as outline any relevant background, including past board experience and any lived experience of disability.

If you or someone you know is interested in sitting on an SDC, please submit your application by November 13th, 2016.

Ontario Reintroduces Legislation to Further Improve Patient Access and Experience

On October 6, 2016, Ontario reintroduced the Patients First Act, 2016 that would, if passed, improve access to health care for patients and their families. The proposed legislation would increase access to care with better coordination and continuity, and bring a greater focus on culturally and linguistically appropriate services.
